Good manners are a part of Islam. And so, by being Muslim, it's important for us to be on our best behavior as other people will look to our example to see what Islam represents. So regardless of whether you are in public or in private, strive to have good manners. For example, if you're an able-bodied young man and an old lady comes onto the train or bus, why not give up your seat for her to take once in awhile? Another example is to give up some of that vulgar language and to stop using curse words so often too. You don't have to advertise that you're giving up that seat or not cursing with your tongue because your Muslim, but eventually people will start seeing your good manners and your Islam as going hand-in-hand, in'sha'Allah! (a reminder to myself first and foremost, in'sha'Allah) [not a hadith]

Good deeds without sincerity is like a traveller who carries a water container full of dirt. Carrying it is a burden and brings them no benefit. - Ibn al-Qayyim [not a hadith]
